Samuel Bowen II, MD, is a board-certified member of the team at Birmingham Neurosurgery & Spine Group in Birmingham, Alabama. There, Dr. Bowen specializes in neurosurgery and treats disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and cerebrovascular system. 

A native of Sylacauga, Alabama, Dr. Bowen received his bachelor’s degree from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, and then went on to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Bowen completed his Internship and Residency at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. 

Dr. Bowen joined the team at Birmingham Neurosurgery & Spine Group in 1999. Since coming on board, he has served in various capacities at Baptist Montclair Hospital, including the Executive Committee, Cancer Committee, and Health Information Committee. Currently, he holds membership in numerous professional organizations, such as the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (including Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves,) the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (including Joint Section on Tumors of the Central Nervous System,) and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.

His patients have come to appreciate his calm, friendly demeanor coupled with his broad expertise. Dr. Bowen takes his patients’ needs and concerns very seriously and, as a result, has formed close relationships with many of them and their families.
